Saudi Pro League revolution is only just beginning! Foreign player regulations set to change as clubs gear up for fresh summer transfer approach

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    Clubs are currently restricted to having eight foreign players in their squad, but reports that the Saudi Arabian league will increase that figure to 10. The change in regulations will likely encourage clubs from the Middle East nation to continue their efforts to sign players from top teams across the world.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

    According to the report, Saudi clubs will likely use the new regulation to target the best young talents around the world. The likes of Al-Nassr, Al-Ittihad and Al-Hilal could attempt to pluck the most promising players from the youth academies of top teams in Europe and South America.

    WHAT NEXT FOR SAUDI ARABIA?

    The Saudi Pro League is currently on a winter break but will return on February 7 with Al-Ittihad taking on Al-Taee. The rest of the teams in the Saudi top-flight will not be be back in domestic action until the following week.
